Through the Eyes

When I look through the eyes of the world I see
visions of hatred, violence, and greed
tsunamis of terror filled rain pouring down
relentlessly flooding the streets of our cities and towns

When I look through the eyes of the world I see
nameless faces swimming through seas of depravity
I scour the east, I search in the west
No matter the direction, I see the distress

When I look through the eyes of the world I see
a perpetual nightmare in an unending sleep
drugs on street corners, like thieves in the night
stealing our young who give in to their fight

When I look through the eyes of my heart I can finally see
the truth of life as it stands before me
I can see the light behind the sorrow, hidden in your eyes
the strength and courage in your will to survive

When I look through the eyes of my heart at last
I see hearts filled with light who have found the right path
even in their daily struggles to get by
they fill the world with love, spreading their light

Through the eyes of my heart I find renewed faith
at the kindness in people, despite the worlds gaze
today, I shed the eyes of the world once and for all
choosing to see instead, through the eyes of my heart

Without the shadows cast by their visions of dread
my heart fills with hope to see people who care
masses who come together to help those in need
inspiring ripples of kindness and faith to believe

when we reject their truth as all that can be
our hearts can see a world with untold possibility
we can make a difference in the world around us
creating a new vision for the world to surround us
